Professional Trainings Enrich Therapy

CSTWT staff and pro bono therapists improve their ability to treat clients through monthly in-house trainings on such topics as the prevention of suicide, special techniques for working with children and diverse therapy methods. In June, Dr. Mirela Marcu, a psychiatrist who works collaboratively with CSTWT, met with CSTWT therapists to help familiarize them with medications that are used for PTSD and depression.
Coping Through the Storm
The thunderstorm outside is raging and shaking the earth. Inside, the small group of Somali Bantu women is safe in the CSTWT tavern, but because of the noise the women feel as if they are back in Somalia.
Lessons from "The World According to Us"
On Saturday, June 5, 2010, I experienced something wonderful. After working with quite extraordinary refugee and immigrant youth for several months to present another successful International Play Ground performance, I took notice of the spirit of truth in the room. I have always experienced this wisdom and energetic expertise as part of the IPG family.
Alternative Therapists Compliment and Enhance Therapy
In addition to conventional individual, family and group therapy, the Center for Survivors of Torture and War Trauma has been also been using complementary therapies, provided by pro bono therapists Joanie French and Chris Angeli.
Volunteers Come from Around the U.S.

More than 7,000 women came to St. Louis from all over the country for Assembly 2010, the National United Methodist Women's conference, April 30-May 2. Twelve of these magnificent women chose to come to CSTWT to volunteer for a day before the conference as part of the gathering’s community service component.
