How Can I Volunteer?
Without volunteers participating in our mission we would not be able to provide healing services. There are many ways to give your time to the Center for Survivors of Torture and War Trauma. Below are diffent ways you can volunteer and support our:
- Group Retreats is a unique program for youth that allows individuals to strengthen their ability to self heal, receive the support others as group members, and build on their inner strengths through a series of gatherings lasting 4-8 hours each.
- Open Door After School Program is a special afterschool program geared towards refugee chidren and youth ages 5-18 years of age. Open Door gives youth a safe environment to create, share, express, and heal to build their self-confidence, learn conflict resolution skills, and strengthen their social skills.
Anyone who wants to volunteer for youth services should make sure to be registered with the Missouri Family Care Safety Registry. You can check to see if you are registered at
https://webapp03.dhss.mo.gov/fcsrnet/.
If you are not registered, you can register yourself online at
https://webapp01.dhss.mo.gov/FCSRWebRegistration/Welcome.aspx, there is a $10 on-line fee for this. $9.00 if they process via mail.
- Adult Mental Health Services encompasses three programs that focus on refugee adults who suffer from complex post traumatic stress disorder. Through mind/body integrative therapeutic approaches, these adults learn ways to become self empowered to minimize their trauma symptoms, build supports around them, and strengthen their ability to live a healthy and productive life.
- Individual Therapy uses multiple mind/body approaches to the healing process of a refugee experiencing severe post trauma symptoms. These approaches include a variety of evidenced based psychotherapies with trauma victims such as cognitive processing therapy, strength-based narrative, EMDR, and sensori-motor psychotherapy. In support of the psycotherapy, we integrate energy therapies, hypnotherapy, massage therapy, acupressure, and Feldenkrais.
- Group Therapy follows the same principles as the individual therapy but through a group dynamic that builds individual and group supports of one another.
- Adult Retreats a similar program to the youth retreats, the adult retreats teaches individuals to strengthen their ability to self heal, receive the support others as group members, and build on their inner strengths through a series of gatherings lasting 4-8 hours each.
