International Playground
| International Playground (IPG) is a refugee youth performing arts ensemble that serves as a safe place for refugee youth to come together, share experiences, develop original scripts, and put on an annual theater production. Through the use of poetry, song, music, art, dance, monologues, and skits, young adults in middle school and high school develop their own theatrical productions. Past Performances
Why You Talkin' Bout My Mama?!We've all done it before. Whether we were trying to be hurtful or just funny, the phrase "your momma" is used as an insult every day. These words cut deeper than others and are often the catalyst for violence in the lives of refugee youth. Youth Arts Club members dramatized the complex relationships we have with our mothers and explored issues such as bullying, family, and violence.(Click PLAY to watch the entire 40-minute play. Knock Knock America
Through stories, songs, and dances the audience followed Arts Club members as they left their home countries and journeyed to the United States for the first time, encountering new homes, new schools, and new cultures. It was an amazing story of strength, courage, and, above all, hope.
