Professional Trainings Enrich Therapy

CSTWT staff and pro bono therapists improve their ability to treat clients through monthly in-house trainings on such topics as the prevention of suicide, special techniques for working with children and diverse therapy methods. In June, Dr. Mirela Marcu, a psychiatrist who works collaboratively with CSTWT, met with CSTWT therapists to help familiarize them with medications that are used for PTSD and depression.
The collaboration between psychiatrists and therapists benefits clients because therapy for trauma requires safety, a relationship with the client and stabilization. “Coordinating medication with therapy sessions helps prepare the client for the work of trauma healing,” says CSTWT therapist Dr. Helen McGlynn. “Physician and therapist act as a team to relieve symptoms, get better sleep and manage the trauma.” CSTWT is grateful to Marcu, who provides excellent service to our clients and consultation to our therapists.
